Hi all. New member. I was trying to access the D20 conversion notes but can't connect. I went to dl138.merp.com and went through the folders. Were these perhaps an off-site offering that is now down? thanks, Cire Blade

Does anyone know of a good excel character sheet for MERP? I am running a game for a convention in a few weeks and i would like to have clean computer generated PC sheets and not just hand written copies.   Any help would be appreciated....   Thanks

Consider posting this as a "news item" in your folder, then "submit for publication", and we can publish it, so that it will show up on the front page, you will get many more views that way. Hope that helps! Merp.com Volunteer Staff.

http://old.merp.com is where you can find the links to downloads. Also dl138.merp.com is sometimes online. P2p networks full of copies too. There are other mirrors and sources floating around out there as well.

You can already do so from within your own merp.com Member folder, or using the existing structure of forums and such here on merp.com. Let us know if you need any guidance on how to do so. -Merp.com Volunteer Team.

I've now got my game off the ground. I'm looking for an online tool to use to assist players to keep up to date and communicate between game sessions A mini Forum A Blog space to let payers or GM maintain a Blog of the game, thereby gradually building a co-authored novel based on our exploits. Document Storage to place character sheets, and Cultural information etc that players and GM can use and update. (e.g fleshing out information on the locales where we are playing and characters are from to assist them in playing their characters)   Any suggestions of free to access servers we can use to set-up such a site?

The 2nd Edition rule book suggests that keeping track of characters experience points be handled by passing a pair of fecord sheets to two of the players. One handles injury and combat records to each player and NPC, another keeps a record of each event that occurs to each PC.   The GM simply needs to take this second sheet and compare the coded events against the XP charts to tot up the EXP that each cahracter has gained in a session. I find this takes about 20 minutes, but needs a calcuator.   Subtracting critical points from the ki9ll points requires cross referencing the two sheets. I need to pay more attention to instructions on indicating special situations like single combat which attract a greater number of xp.     I've never played GRUPS, but one of my other players says he likes it.

I did MERP for many years and swore by it. Still like it. However, once someone introduced me to GURPS it became THE system for me. The things I like in MERP are also in GURPS and the things which weren't so great in MERP are much much better in GURPS. There is nothing which MERP does which GURPS doesn't do better or, at the very least, I find I don't really miss.    I guess the *only* thing I might miss is the very non-subjective experience point system in MERP. However, I just remember the true record keeping pain in the rear it could be and I find I don't miss it too much.

I am starting up a ME campaign and am looking for players   System: GURPS (GURPS newbies welcome) Format: Online using combination of Google Wave for story development and RPtools for encounters. Story development will occur throughout the week and real time sessions will be scheduled every couple of weeks or so.    Setting: Current plan is to start in Bree at around year 2000 of the 3rd age. This is flexible though and I am open to other ideas.    Party: The standard points for characters will be 150. However, unless the part exceeds 6, only 1 elf (Sindar or Silvan at 200-225) and 1 dwarf (at 175 points) will be allowed in the party. To balance this I will be allowing extra points to other players for things not normally considered in GURPS character creation, ie. special items, extra starting money, etc. Think of it as MERP background points.    Play will be "heroic" - all characters will be required to have, at the very least, sense of duty to their race and only free people races are allowed. However, beyond that, morally ambiguous characters (ie. Boromir) are allowed and even encouraged.    Magic will be available but toned down - no fireballs or things like that, but things like nature "magic" will be readily available for those who wish to train in it.    Within the above framework, any thing else as far as items, character creation, magic spells, etc. will be allowed (per GM approval and/or tweaking, of course). Creativity in character creation and play is encouraged and rewarded.

You can find information in the Kin-Strife module and Morveer is right: there' s information about Umbar' s political expansion in an Other Hands issue... but I don' t remember this issue's number, sorry...  About Umbarean landmarks, don' t worry about that because all modules give little precisions: Harnen river to the North, Dusalan and Annabrith river to the south and... and... that's all ! Umbarean power is strong along the coasts, along rivers between Harnen and Annabrith too  and decreases heavily and quickly when you go deeper far east. The political control over Harad' sands was always more a dream than a reality, even by the the times of the Numenorean's kings ! So by the times of Gondor...

It would be even worse with an inexperienced GM   Previously Morveer wrote: I like Rolemaster the best, but if the players are inexperienced then the game is problematic, however a modified Rolemaster/Harp could work out very well.

How do you deal with bleed through from one skill to another? an example would be the Foraging skill. if someone has no foraging skill their perception is relevant. similarly if someone is has a very high perception skill surely that should affect related skills based on perception such as foraging? Obviously this question applies to most systems
